Suspect Collapses In Court In Gombe

A 19-year-old suspect,??Ahmadu Adama,?standing trial?for culpable homicide, on Monday collapsed at the Gombe State High Court, while giving evidence before the court.

Adama was in court for allegedly stabbing one Shuaibu Umar with a knife on?April 25, 2009.

The accused,who pleaded guilty to the offence, was asked by his counsel, Mr Yahaya Galadima, to narrate the incident.

He said the deceased and his friends had earlier attacked him during a wedding ceremony.

“They were many they attacked me and even stopped me from entering the venue of the ceremony. In the process of defence, I brought out a knife and stabbed one of them,’’ he said.

As he was narrating the incident, the suspect suddenly collapsed and started sweating.

Following his collapse, the defence counsel, urged the court to adjourn the case to Aug. 23 for continuation of hearing.

The Judge, Justice Abdulqadir Pindiga, ordered the prison warders to take the suspect out of the court.

Pindiga adjourned the case to Aug. 23, for continuation.

NAN reports that the case was filed on Jan. 11, 2010 while hearing on the matter started on?Feb. 17, 2010.

NAN also gathered that the accused?allegedly committed the offence when he was 16 years old. (NAN)
