Delta Threatens To Terminate Contracts Over Contractors’ Delay

?

?Two contractors handling classrooms projects at Okugbe Primary School, Uwheru, in Ughelli North Local Government of Delta, have been ordered to move to site or have the contracts terminated.

Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, gave the order at Uwheru near Ughelli in Delta?on Friday, when he visited the school to inspect the projects.

Muoboghare?said that the contractors were also directed to ensure that the projects were completed before the commencement of 2012/2013 academic session.

He?decried the attitude of the contractors for failing to mobilise to site after the contracts for two blocks of three classrooms each were awarded to them more than six months ago.

The commissioner said that similar contracts awarded at the same time as the Okugbe Primary School project were almost completed.?

He said that all the jobs were projected for completion before the commencement of the next academic session.

Muoboghare said?that the ministry would not pay for any job not done, adding that contractors, who abandoned projects after collecting mobilisation fees would be made to refund the money and would also be prosecuted.

The commissioner, therefore, called on all contractors executing projects for the ministry to ensure that they completed the jobs on schedule and to specification.

“I must stress, for the avoidance of doubt, that completion of projects on schedule and provision of quality jobs would determine further patronage of any contractor by our ministry,''?he said. (NAN)
