Muslims Stage Peaceful Procession To Mark World Quds Day In Kaduna

Members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, yesterday staged a procession to mark the annual ‘World Quds Day’ in Kaduna.

The procession, which started from Maiduguri road Friday Mosque in Kaduna North local government area, terminated at Tudun Wada Friday Mosque in Kaduna South local government area. Thousands of Muslim faithful were in attendance.

The peaceful procession was led by the head of the Kaduna centre of the Islamic Movement, Malam Mukhtar Sahabi, despite the tension created in the metropolis with the presence of heavily armed military personnel, who were at alert to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

In his speech at the end of the procession, Malam Mukhtar called on Muslims to live up to their responsibilities, saying: “We are duty bound to show our support to the oppressed people of Palestine who are facing systematic extinction as a result of murder, destruction of houses and violence against women and children. “

He called on Muslims to unite, urging the non-Muslims to understand the need for peaceful co-existence and “not allow the Israelis to destabilise our immediate environment through propaganda.”

Mukhtar also stated that “the guns of the oppressive Zionists in Israel are not aimed only at Muslims as they are killing both Muslims and Christians alike.”

According to a statement, which explains the purpose of the protest made available to the public during the procession, the ‘World Quds Day’? “is a day set aside to remind the world of the significance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and its continued desecration by the Zionists usurpers for decades.

“By staging peaceful marches, making speeches and distributing press releases, we are doing exactly the same with fellow Muslims and freedom lovers worldwide. Historical texts and the hadith of the Prophet are full of numerous indications that it is the first Qibla (direction) of the Muslims, and other virtues associated with the Holy mosque. Al-Aqsa Mosque and its vicinity is central and pivotal to Islam just like the Holy Ka’abah and Mecca.”
