Nigeria moved to 10th?place on the medals table at the end of proceedings on Friday in London at the 2012 Paralympic Games with two gold and two silver medals.
After winning a gold medal on the first day of competition on Thursday through Yakubu Adesokan who also set a new world and Paralympic record, Nigeria added three medals a day later.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ivory Nwokorie won a gold medal in women’s -44 kg powerlifting, while Ikechukwu Obichukwu won the silver in men’s -52 kg powerlifting.
According to Games reports monitored from Abuja by NAN, Anthony Ulonnam added to Nigeria’s powerlifting haul with another silver medal later in the day, winning in the men’s -56 kg.
This took to four so far Nigeria’s medals tally in the sport, one of the three the country is taking part in at the Games.
China still led the table with 34 medals, made up of 13 gold 10 silver and 11 bronze, with Australia in second place with seven gold four silver and eight bronze medals.
Hosts Great Britain are in fifth place with four gold 11 silver five bronze medals, while the U.S are sixth with four gold one silver and six bronze medals.
Egypt are the next African team closest to the top of the standings, in 18th?place with one gold two bronze medals while South Africa are joint 19th?with three others with one gold one bronze medals.
NAN reports that 44 countries had already won at least one medal as at the close of proceedings at the Games which had its opening ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
The Games is scheduled to come to a close on Sunday, Sept. 9.(NAN)
