Kogi In League Of Oil States — Senate President

Senate president David Mark has said that Kogi State would likely join the league of oil producing states in the country with the discovery of oil in the state.

Mark, who stated this in Lokoja yesterday, said he was surprised that the state governor, Captain Idris Wada was still talking about lean financial resources when the state was supposed to be an oil state.

He however, hoped that all the controversies surrounding the matter would be resolved quickly to enable the state reap the benefits of its resources like others.

The senate president, who was in Lokoja for the burial of his Special Assistant on Religious Matters, and Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, Gwagwalada, Rev. Fr. Jerome Bello, stated this during a courtesy call on Governor Idris Wada at the Government House, Lokoja.

He commended the people of the state for their religious tolerance, which he said was the vital ingredient needed for the socio-economic development of the state.

Senator Mark therefore, stressed the need for Nigerians to continue to work together irrespective of their differences, to enable the country move to another level of development.

He sympathised with the people on the flood ravaging some local government areas, even as he maintained that it is high time Nigerians began to take the warnings of those reading the country’s climatic conditions seriously.

The senate president, who expressed happiness that no life has been lost to the natural disaster promised to ensure that the state get the support and assistance of the federal government and relevant agencies.

Speaking earlier, the state governor, Captain Idris Wada decried the level of destruction done on farmlands and properties by the flood, saying it was seriously impacting on the people.

He pointed out that although the senate president was in the state on a sad note, he was happy that he went round with him to see what the people of the state were going through.

Wada therefore, called on the federal government to assist the state under the present circumstance.
