Medical Officers Warned Over Negligence Of Duty

The? Chairman, House committee on Health Services, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Suru Avoseh, has warned that any Medical Officer of Health( MOH) found wanting in the discharge of his duty would be dealt with accordingly.

He disclosed this at Oshodi Primary Health Centre at Ajibulu Street as part of his committee’s visit to the PHCs.

The lawmaker noted that among the health centres visited, MOHs were not on ground to see patients, rather they are found at the local council pursuing files and roaming about the council.

Avoseh stated that the purpose of the MOH in the health centres was to complement efforts of the doctors in attending to patients promptly without delay.

The lawmaker therefore called on? Ministry of Health through the Special Adviser on Public Health to monitor the activities of the MOH.

He stressed that the state government cannot afford to lose patients to quack doctors in some of the private hospitals, saying that all hands must be on deck to provide affordable and accessible health care delivery to residents in the state.

“We want our medical personnel to be up and doing. The situation where patients would go to the PHC and spend several hours without being attended to would no longer be tolerated. Health care delivery has changed, that is why the state government is improving on health centres in the state”, he added.

The chairman said the state government recently employed 300 health volunteers who were deployed to the various PHC to compliment efforts of the nurses and midwives in the registration of patients and crowd control at the PHC.
