Leave Governance To Politicians, Petinrin Tells Military

The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Oluseyi Olusegun Petinrin yesterday cautioned military against coup since there is no political solution is in their hands.

He made the clarion call in Abuja at the pulling out parade to mark his retirement from the Nigeria Armed Forces, which he served meritoriously for over 38 years.

The occasion was attended by all serving and former service chiefs led by his successor in office, Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, their wives, the Inspector-General of Police, GOCs, FOCs, top serving and former military top brass and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Quoting General Douglas MacArthur while addressing cadets of the U.S. Military Academy on May 12, 1962, the Ipetu-Ijesha- born military tactician, reminded his former colleagues how the armed forces suffered untold neglect under the military dictatorship and told them that “great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution.”
