Gov. Obi Calls For Proper Empowerment Of Youths

Gov Peter Obi of Anambra has called for proper empowerment of youths to improve the country’s gross domestic product.

Speaking when members of Team Six, Course 21, of the National Defence College, Abuja, paid him a courtesy visit in Awka on Monday, Obi said the government at all levels should focus on employment creation in various sectors.

He said the youth, which formed the bulk of the Nigerian population, should use their productive energy, talents and skills to develop the economy.

He explained that the state was empowering youths through functional education and stimulating measures to harness untapped potentials in the agricultural and industrial sectors.

He said the government had also attracted multi-national companies with potentials to create direct and indirect employment.

The governor said that his administration was investing huge resources in the sports sectors to effectively harness talents in the state.

The team leader, Rear Admiral Samuel Orie, said they were impressed by the achievement recorded by the governor in repositioning the state for sustainable development.

Orie noted that the state, with its hardworking and enterprising people, could be a fertile ground for effective study and proper account of their tour, adding that the empowerment of youths had a correlation with internal security.

He explained that the study tour would enable them to further present the state as well as identify its challenges.?

The 19-member team is on a one-week study tour of the state with the theme `Youth Empowerment and Internal Security’.

It is one of the nine teams of the course visiting nine states in the country for the annual study which will be followed by the presentation of findings on Oct. 24.
