Gov. Aliyu Of Niger Alleges Plot By Opposition To Destabilise State

Minna, Oct. 17, 2012 (NAN) Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger on Wednesday said that his government had uncovered plans by main opposition parties in the state to destabilise the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Malam Danladi Ndayebo.

“There is a plan being hatched by some highly placed individuals in the state which involves using opposition elements to peddle falsehood about the Dr Babangida Aliyu-led PDP government in the state.’’

It added that the plot was being hatched by some individuals and group who insisted on always being patronised by the government by all means.

The statement added that not succeeding the group was now using all manners to discredit the present administration.

The statement quoted Aliyu as saying that the negative publications and press conferences were being sponsored by those who had become threatened by the successes of his administration and were damaging his reputation and that of the state.

“We are astounded at how low some politicians can sink by employing downright lies and irresponsible tactics just to create the impression that things are not working.

“The Government of Niger State condemns this cheap blackmail being used as a last joker by drowning politicians who will clutch at anything, including mere straws, to remain relevant.

“But we are undaunted because the people of Niger State are very discerning. And in the fullness of time, the lies and those behind them will be exposed,’’ the statement said.

It said that Aliyu remained committed to his present assignment and would not be distracted by the antics of disgruntled politicians whose stock in trade was blackmail.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that chieftains of the Niger State wings of the CPC, ACN and ANPP addressed the media on Tuesday in Minna to lament the various neglect of campaign promises made by Aliyu since he assumed office in 2007.
