Fuel Queues Disappear As NNPC Increases Supply To Abuja

The long queues for petrol by motorists and other users have disappeared at filling stations in Abuja following NNPC’s increased supply of the product, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

A NAN correspondent, who visited major filling stations in Abuja on Sunday, reports that the hitherto chaotic situation has disappeared with motorist now buying the product with ease.

Abuja and its environs battled with fuel scarcity for about over a week due to what the NNPC termed diversion of the product by some marketers.

Virtually all the stations in the metropolis were selling fuel with no queues at their premises.

At the popular Conoil filling station, opposite the NNPC Towers in Central Area, it took just about five minutes for motorist to buy fuel whereas they have been spending hours daily on the queue since the scarcity started.

Mr Fidel Pepple, acting Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, told NAN that some marketers had been diverting the product from the Kaduna refinery meant for Abuja and environs.

He said the corporation, through its subsidiary, the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), set up a monitoring committee to ensure filling stations dispense the products they got daily.

He said the PPMC also stepped up its daily supply of product from the Kaduna refinery to Abuja to about 100 trucks to eliminate scarcity.

He warned fuel station owners and marketers to shun any activity that could stall effective supply and dispensing of products to the public, adding that anyone caught in shady activities would be appropriately sanctioned.

He called on motorist to avoid panic buying and hoarding of the product as the NNPC has enough of the product for the nation.
