SON To Start Products Registration – MD

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has said that it will soon start registration of products to check influx of substandard goods into the country.

Dr Joseph Odumodu, the SON director-general, told the news Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Sunday in Abuja that the registration is aimed at combating importation of substandard products.

We are starting a robust product registration regime any moment from now and it is to ensure that every product you pick up anywhere in Nigeria is traceable to a source.

“You must be able to tell its characteristics such as the maker and importer.’’

The SON boss stressed that every imported product must have a code to ensure that it could be traced in the event of any problem.

According to him, the registration will also help to screen both imported and locally- manufactured products.

The director general said that SON would do everything possible to rid the Nigerian market of substandard products.

Odumodu also said that SON would continue to liaise and collaborate with other government agencies in the fight against importation of substandard products
