Shettima Decries Quality Of Work At Borno University

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno has expressed reservation with the quality of work in some sections of the proposed campus of the state university in Maiduguri.

Shettima made the observation on Tuesday when he paid an unscheduled?visit to the campus located at the site of the defunct Borno?Informatics Institute on Jos Road, Maiduguri. ?

He expressed concern about the quality of work at the administrative building and described it as `deficient.’ He advised the contractor handling the project to rectify the problem, noting that the supervising engineers from the Ministry of Works was responsible for the defects.

The governor warned that government would henceforth hold site engineers responsible for poorly executed projects.

“The site engineers posted from the Ministry of Works have the right to reject poorly executed projects from the onset.

“Once they do this, the contractor must obey and rectify the problem because he will not be paid by the government,'' Shettima said.

Earlier, the Chairman, Technical Committee on the establishment of the university, Prof. Nur Alkali, said the committee would invite officials from the National University Commission, (NUC) to inspect the site by the end of November.

It would be recalled that Shetimma had signed the bill on the establishment of the state university into law after its passage by the ?State House of Assembly. (NAN)
