‘Don’t Blame Al-Makura For Under-development In Nasarawa’

The senior special assistant, Media, to the Nasarawa State Governor Alhaji Sani Musa Mairiga has? said that his boss, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, should not be blamed for the state’s level of under-development since its creation some sixteen years ago.

The senior aide to the governor stated this in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, in reaction to a comment by a chieftain of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state that Al-Makura.

He noted that the governor inherited intimidating debt profiles that seem to mortgage the future of the state.

“It must be noted that the previous administration in the state abused public funds indiscriminately, with nothing to show. Monies meant for infrastructure development found their way into private pockets, thereby leaving the people wallowing in abject poverty and infrastructure decay,” he said.

The media assisstant said that his boss inherited more than N32 billion debt, and added that contracts not executed and projects abandoned were paid for by the last administration.

According to him, Governor Al-Makura had said it times without number that the state’s monthly allocation is nothing to write home about considering the fact that the money is also used to service? the huge debts he inherited.

“The governor is trying his best; it takes a day to destroy but a year to put back what has been destroyed. I want to appeal to the people of Nasarawa State to support the administration of Umar Tanko Al-Makura in its quest to better their living standards of the people,” he said.
