Suntai Air Crash: Govs Decry Dwindling State Of Aviation Sector

The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has decried the dwindling state of the aviation sector and resolved to spearhead the move for a holistic approach to salvage the sector.

The forum also mandated its committee on security to find a lasting solution to the insecurity in the country.

Rising from their meeting in the early hours of Thursday morning, the chairman of the Forum, Chibuike Ameachi, in a communique expressed concern over the unfortunate aircraft accident involving the governor of Taraba State, Mr Danbaba Suntai, currently receiving treatment in Germany and extended their best wishes to the family and prayed for his speedy recovery.

He said, “upon comprehensive discussion on the present state of aviation industry members of the forum observed that there is need for holistic approach to arrest the dwindling state of the aviation sector and resolved to engage all stakeholders at the national level to address the challenge.”

On security, Ameachi said, “Forum extensively deliberated on the current insecurity in the country and expresses deep regret over the recent acts of violence in Borno and Kaduna States and consequently mandated the security committee of the Forum to commence work immediately with a view to finding a lasting solution”.

The governors also reiterated their resolve to kick out polio from the country by December 2013.

“On the current efforts to eradicate polio, forum commended the on-going efforts of members in their various states in the past six months and reiterated the need for renewed commitment to eradicating polio by December 2013 as agreed at its previous meeting.”
