Opposition Parties Flay Katsina Over House Gift To Niamey Governor

Coalition of New Nigeria (CNN), an umbrella body of opposition political parties in Katsina State, has chided the state government for building a house to the governor of Niamey Region in Niger Republic, describing the gesture as a misplacement of priority.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND reports that the state government recently built and donated an official residence to the governor of Niamey Region as part of efforts to strengthen the bond of relationship that exists between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

The house, which is named Katsina House, costs about N60 million (200 million CFA). It was learnt that the decision to build a new residence for the governor of Niamey was prompted by Governor Shema’s desire to provide an edifice befitting of a governor for his Niamey counterpart, coupled with the fact that the old Government House was in a bad shape.

However, chairman of CNN, Ibrahim Maidabino told LEADESHIP WEEKEND in a telephone interview that there was no justification for the gesture, and insisted that, “The state government is not being fair to the good people of Katsina State.”
