Reps Probe Aviation Minister For Barring Int’l Flights To Kano

The House of Representatives yesterday resolved to set up a committee to investigate the Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah for barring four international airlines from commencing commercial flights to the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

A motion sponsored by Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, and raised in relation to the barred flights to Kano, expressed worry that the refusal of the aviation minister to grant the permission to the foreign airlines? was capable of retarding the business growth in Kano and by implication Nigeria.

The airlines include Turkish Airline, Ethiopia Airlines, Emirates Airlines and Skyline.

In the lead debate, Madaki stressed the importance of the Kano airport to commerce and business in sub-Sahara East of the Niger.

“The refusal to grant the permits to the four airlines to fly into the Mallam Aminu International Airport runs contrary to President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformational agenda.

“There is need to create conducive environment for investment and to encourage our international business men and women who desire investment in the northern part of the country,” he said at yesterday’s plenary.
