Men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) yesterday survived another bomb explosion which was planted and targeted at one of their patrol vehicles along a major road linking Gwange/London Ciki wards of Maiduguri metropolis.
Our correspondent gathered that the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was planted by suspected terrorist, group exploded at about 8am few metres away from a patrolling JTF vehicle,? shattering and damaging its windscreen, and destroying its body.
There were, however, no fatalities among the occupants.
Immediately after the blast, our correspondent gathered that there was an exchange of gunfire around the area which lasted for 20 minutes, before the JTF cordoned off the area to prevent further attacks.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the JTF spokesman, Lt.? Colonel Sagir Musa said that at about 8:35 am yesterday, there was a failed IED attack on a JTF patrol vehicle along Gwange/Costain area of Maiduguri metropolis.
He said, an IED remote control bomb targeted at JTF vehicle (s) was planted and buried on the road by suspected Boko Haram Terrorists.
He added that no casualty was recorded and nobody was killed or wounded.
“The area was cordoned off, searched and swept by the bomb disposal arm of the JTF,” he said,? pointing out that normalcy had since been restored in the area.
