4 Docked For Allegedly Robbing Commuters At Bus Stop In Lagos

Four men, including a commercial motorcyclist, were arraigned in Lagos on Friday for allegedly robbing three commuters waiting for transport at Anthony Bus Stop.

The?accused – Shaheed Akintayo, 34, Oluwa Olajide, 25, Sunday Koku, 25, and Femi David, 25,?- are facing?a two-count charge of conspiracy to steal and robbery before a Somolu Magistrates' Court.

They all pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Akinlebi, told the court that the accused, on Nov. 3, at about 9.30 p.m. at Anthony Bus Stop, assaulted and robbed three friends – Jude Ani, Greg Okolo and Emeka Oniya?- of their belongings valued at N175,500.

“The accused assaulted Ani, Okolo and Oniya, inflicting them with fist blows and hitting them with sticks, then dispossessing them of their belongings.

“They forcibly collected their mobile phones, gold necklaces, bangles, wristwatches and cash, all valued at N175, 000.

“The attack attracted some onlookers who immediately raised an alarm as the four attempted to flee.

“A group of sympathisers ran after them, arrested the four men and took them to the police station,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 170, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted each of the accused a bail of N50,000 and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Nov. 30 for trial. (NAN)
