LUTH Calls For Partnership To Replace Burnt AIDS Building

Prof. Akin Osibogun, Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), has called on philanthropists to assist the hospital to rebuild the burnt AIDS Prevention Initiative Clinic (APIN).

Osibogun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that it was not easy for LUTH to rebuild the clinic.

NAN recalls that an evening fire had on Aug. 30 reduced the APIN Clinic of LUTH to rubbles.

Smoke was first noticed coming out of the building at about 7.00 p.m. while some doctors were holding a meeting within it.

NAN recalls that the clinic, made of wood, was one of the oldest structures at the hospital.

Osibogun said, “It is not easy to build another structure, because we don't want to put the same wooden structure again.

“We want to build a structure that would see into the future and accommodate additional services.

“Therefore, it cannot happen in one day or one month,” he said.

Osibogun, however, appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the hospital in achieving this goal.

“We are open to interested partners, public-spirited Nigerians and philanthropists, who are interested in partnering with us to put up the new structure.

“Because, government alone cannot handle health, it is a shared responsibility between the public and private sector, between the government and the community,” Osibogun said.
