Bankers Games: Skye, Standard Chartered In Finals

Skye Bank and Standard Chartered Bank shot their way to the finals of the 2012 Nigeria Bankers Games at the University of Lagos Sports Complex on Sunday. Skye Bank will equal UBA record of five Bankers Games’ football event finals victory if it defeats Standard Chartered Bank this Sunday. Jimmy Sogbesan, an official of MediaVision Limited, organizers of the Bankers Games said the slim result is a reflection of the games toughness.

But for Kayode Abdulrasheed, who broke the deadlock in the second half with a vintage strike, the match was another opportunity to extend his scorecard of record goals in the Bankers Games to 53. Commenting on the victory, Abdulrasheed said,”I am happy to have scored the lone goal which guaranteed our passage to the finals of the 2012 NBG football event. It wasn’t easy getting to this stage of the competition but it has taken us determination, hard work and team work”.

In The second match between Stanbic-IBTC Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, Jide Siwoku netted the lone and winning goal in the second half to earn his squad their first ever Bankers Games final. “We never for once doubted our ability to perform well in this competition, we have always believed in ourselves and that is what has kept us going. We expect a tough game against Skye Bank in the finals as they have proved to be a very good side.

But we are equally a strong side and therefore cannot fold our hands and watch them take the trophy. It’s going to be a cracker”
