Pastor’s Trial Suffers Setback As Prosecution Fails To Present Witnesses

The trial of an accused, the Rev. Terkura Enoch-Kaa for alleged murder suffered a setback on Tuesday as?the police failed?to present three witnesses.

Enoch-Kaa, an Abuja-based pastor of Household of Grace Church, Kubwa, FCT, was arraigned on March 16 for allegedly killing his wife, Lorreta, a 44-year-old teacher and an assistant pastor of the church.

At the resumed hearing of the case, the prosecution counsel, ASP Priscilla Oguamalum, told the court that the key witnesses were not available.

She told the court that the witnesses were supposed to have arrived in Abuja from Enugu and prayed the court for a short adjournment to enable her to produce them.

?She apologised for the absence of the witnesses and promised to produce them by the next adjourned date.

But counsel to Enoch-Kaa, Mr Joseph Henkeyerr, objected to the application for an adjournment.

He told the court that the accused?was very ill.

In his ruling, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf,?granted the application of the prosecution for an adjournment.

He also added that the prosecution must unfailingly produce the three witnesses by the next adjourned date of Dec. 5.

The judge also ordered the Comptroller-General of Prisons to allow Enoch-Kaa access to the best medical care while in Kuje Prison.

Enoch-Kaa had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of homicide which the prosecution said contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
