Soldiers attached to Aba Forward Operational Base (FOB) of the 144 Battalion have arrested an ex-student of Abia State University for alleged car snatching.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the ex-student was a member of a gang that snatched a Toyota Camry saloon at Umuezi in Obingwa Local Government Area.
The gang which operated in a white bus with registration number Rivers YH 202 PHC was said to have snatched the car in an area which was notorious during the kidnap era in the state.
Luck ran out on the suspect when soldiers who had spread their drag nets arrested him near a park as he drove the same bus used by the gang.
When a NAN correspondent visited the army base at Ngwa High School in Aba, the officer in charge, Capt. Chris Nwogu, was said to be away on official duty, but an officer who wouldn’t want his name in print confirmed the arrest.
He said that efforts were on to get other members of the gang.
