Former Governor of Cross River, Mr Donald Duke, on Tuesday in Abuja urged the Nigerian Law School to focus more on practice than theory.
Duke told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), after attending the Call to Nigerian Bar of 3,897 candidates, including his daughter, Xerona, that there was need to equip law students with more practical training.
He said experience in the field would avail students the opportunity to stand any form of challenges as professionals.
“We need to decentralise the training. We need to emphasise more on practice than the theories.
“A whole lot of things need to be done but it is a good start and we should encourage them.”
He expressed satisfaction for witnessing the call to bar of his daughter, whom he described as “a second generation lawyer.”
Duke said his joy knew no bounds, having realised that his daughter is also a lawyer like him and is ready to practice as a lawyer.
The former governor received LLB degree in 1982 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was called to bar in 1983.
