Gov. Gabriel Suswam of Benue on Friday pledged to strengthen the cordial relationship existing between the state executive and the legislature so that development could?be sustained in the state. ?
Suswam gave the pledge on Thursday night in Taraku, Gwer East Local Government Area of the state at a reception organised in honour of the Speaker, Benue House of Assembly, Mr Terhile Ayua. ?
Represented by his deputy, Chief Steve Lawani, the governor said that the growth and development that had taken place in the state was premised on such relationship.
The governor stressed the need for the two arms of government to sustain the relationship. ?
Suswan noted that if the relationship was further strengthened it would go a long way to enhance the development strides of the state in all spheres.
He assured the?legislators that the executive would give “adequate attention” to their welfare, to motivate them to turnout quality legislation that could turn around the fortunes of the state. ?
Speaking in his capacity, Lawani commended the people of Gwer East for keeping faith with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He told the people of the area to know that the gains of being in the ruling party far outweighed the advantages of belonging to the opposition parties. ?
He enjoined them to continue to give their loyalty and support to the party, by voting en masse for the PDP’s candidates in the Nov. 24?council polls. ?
In his comment, the?Paramount?ruler of the area, Chief Dominic Akpe called on his subjects to refrain from acts capable of pulling down people in authority.
He said rather they should support those in leadership position to succeed in their responsibilities. ?
The guest speaker on the occasion, Sen. Jacob Tilley-Gyado called on the people of Gwer to desist from in house crisis and face the societal challenges with a view to proffering lasting solutions to them. ?
In their separate comments, former speaker of the State House of Assembly,Stephen Tsav, and Attorney General of the state, Alex Adum expressed optimism that the present leadership of the house would stabilise the house and unite all the factions. ?
The duo, however, urged the leadership to uphold?and sustain the confidence members reposed on it. ?
Earlier, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the council, Mr James Ukpur, in his address of welcome, appealed to the governor to construct the road that links Mase with Paka as well as construct a bridge at Mbapier. (NAN)
