Create Jobs, ABU VC Tells 7,680 Graduands

Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha yesterday told the newly graduands of the institution to go out and create job opportunities? rather than awaiting white-collar job

The vice chancellor who stated this during the convocation of about 7,680 students, reminded the graduating students that, the years of assured employment were fast fading, while the dawn of creatively deployment of skills had just come.

The Sultan of Sokoto and Chancellor of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III who convoked the students, only declared the event open.

While he told them that they were graduating into the wider and challenging Nigerian society as fulfilled individuals, the Vice Chancellor noted that where their training ends, the reality of life begins, as they were going into competitive domains of existence where employment was highly competitive and limited.

According to Professor Mustapha, “the responsibility of ABU has been changing. From producing trained manpower for government, universities are now required to produce learned and skilful people for the open market and self-employment.

“So, you must be on your guard. In this kind of constrained world, you must not despair but deploy your skill creatively instead.

ABU has partly prepared you to face challenges through of curricula that incorporate entrepreneurship so that you can secure a respectable place in life”, he said.
