Police Arraigns Woman For Assisting Husband Jump Bail

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arraigned a husband and wife before a chief magistrate court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja for assisting husband to jump police bail.

The police has in their charge sheet alleged that one Chris Ozobia conspired with his wife, Mrs Helen Ozobia and others at large to steal and sell a certificate of occupancy of land for N4 million.

Police said following investigation one Chris Ozobia was arrested. Mrs Helen Ozobia thereafter facilitated Chis Ozobia’s escape by bringing a fake pastor to stand as surety before he was admitted to bail from police custody.

The police also alleged that Helen had earlier presented a man who posed as Usman Abubakar and her husband in line with the name on the c of o to deceive one Augustine Ejike who paid N4.2 million for the land.

The police charge sheet reads in part, ‘’on September 17, 2012, Barr Yabwa Ibrahim of Legal Rock Solicitors and Advocate, Abuja complained through a petition to the commissioner of police FCT Abuja on behalf of his client, Usman Abubakar that his right of occupancy at AGIS was stolen and somebody who impersonated his name conspired with others and sold same to one Augustine Ejike who later conducted private investigation and discovered that the c of o is his own.

‘’Police investigation so far revealed that Ejike, a receiver of the stolen c of o bought innocently without knowledge of the fact that it was stolen, that when Chris Ozobia was arrested for theft of the said c of o and criminal conspiracy with others at large including yourself Mrs Helen Ozobia.

‘’You facilitated Chris Ozobia’s escape by bringing a fake pastor to the police and presented him as surety who can take him on bail.

‘’It was also alleged that you conspired with one other person now at large who posed as Usman Abubakar and your husband and deceived Augustine Ejike to pay N4.2 million for the stolen c of o and you thereby committed criminal conspiracy, theft, false impersonation, cheating contrary to sections 97, 287, 179, 322, 212, 167 and 132 of the penal code law’’.
