Barring last minute changes or shelve of plans, Chief Tony Anenih, may succeed former President Olusegun Obasanjo as chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This is against the wish of Obasanjo who is said to be rooting for his close ally, Chief Ahmadu Ali. Sources in the villa who spoke to LEADERSHIP ahead of last night’s meeting in the Villa which held on until the early hours of this morning said it was an all out battle as the Presidency had to embark on one on one invitation of the BoT members to lobby them to support an Anenih chairmanship.
Though it could not be ascertained if the final voting cum election expected to take place finally held, it was almost a fait accompli that Chief Anenih would likely emerge.
The race late, Thursday evening, got narrowed down to the trio of Chief Tony Anenih, Dr Ahmadu Ali and former Senate President, Dr Ken Nnamani.
While high wire lobbying peaked for Anenih and Ali, Nnamani’s penchant for due process and straight jacketed insistence seem to have left him in the cold as activities in the boardroom of the PDP centered between Anenih, who got deposed as the PDP BoT chair by Obasanjo and Ali. Obasanjo had resigned from the position earlier this year citing personal reasons.
