The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arraigned ?a Lagos-based transporter, Kafilu Baba, before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja over alleged N7 million fraud.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Baba was arraigned before Justice Lateefat Okunnu on a one-count charge of obtaining goods by false pretence.
The EFCC counsel, Mr Kayode Oni, alleged that the defendant had in February 2011 requested one Alhaji Mohammed Bello to supply him with seven Mack Trucks trailers ?valued at N17 million.
Oni said the defendant had promised to pay for the vehicles within one month after they were supplied.
He alleged that Baba reneged on the promise and had paid only N10 million to the supplier till date.
According to him, Baba's refusal to pay the balance compelled Bello to petition the EFCC which led to his arrest.
Oni said the defendant's alleged offence contravened Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act of 2006.
Baba, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
The judge ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody pending the hearing of his bail application fixed for Dec. 21. (NAN)
