The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi Council, has appealed to government to hasten the implementation of weigh in allowance for media workers in the state.
The Council’s Chairman, Mr Dahiru Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) ?in Bauchi on Monday that five states have so far implemented the allowance.
Mohammed said that Gov. Isa Yuguda had earlier assured journalists that he would implement the allowance after the federal government’s approval.
“It will not be good for us to be paid like other civil servants because we at least work 12 hours in a day and seven days in a week.
“We don’t have public holidays or weekends in our schedule, but other enjoy their weekends, public holidays and work eight hours in a day, therefore the input is not the same’’, he said.
Mohammed said that 32 journalists were trained on Information Communication Technology (ICT) in collaboration with Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), a Kano base NGO.
He said that NUJ was able to secured placements for 15 members at Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi and another 15 were studying in various institutions in the country
He said that the council assisted each member on training?with N10.000 financial support. (NAN)
