Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he is not planning to make any signings in the New Year. He said there is still no value to be had in the January transfer market.
A 3-1 victory over Sunderland on Saturday ensured that Manchester United will top the league at Christmas and while other clubs await the opening of the window, Ferguson is happy with the current options at his disposal.
United secured high profile deals for Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in 2006 but the only prominent January arrival since has been goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard, who joined from Aalesund in 2011, as Ferguson has mainly avoided the winter sales. When asked if there are areas of his squad he wants to strengthen when the window opens, Ferguson replied: “No. The January transfer market has never been the best market and that has proved itself over the years. You get very few big transfers – all the big transfers are done in the summer.”
United’s most important acquisition of the previous transfer window was Robin van Persie, and the striker has proved to be worth every penny of his reported ?24 million transfer fee, scoring 15 goals in 21 games in all competitions.
