Why I Parted Ways With Gov Nyako – Jibril Aminu

A foremost Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and former Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, Prof. Jibril Aminu, has expressed displeasure over the manner Adamawa State governor Murtala Nyako runs the affairs of the state which he says fall short of expectations.

Professor Jibril Aminu expressed this view while fielding questions from LEADERSHIP correspondent at his Yola residence. He said that he and other concerned citizens of Adamawa State, worked tirelessly, for Nyako to become the governor of the state with the hope that he would use his vast experience to transform the state, following the neglect it suffered from previous administrations.

“Nyako only succeeded in plunging the state into another era of darkness,” he said.

The Professor cited poor governance and infrastructural decay in the state, as some of his reasons for severing relationship with the government, in order to protect his hard earned integrity. “No one pushed me out of the government but I voluntarily deemed it right to leave in order to protect my hard earned name because I don’t want to associate with failure and mediocrity. Even though I cannot call myself Mr. Perfect, I cannot condone what is happening right now in Adamawa State,” he added.

?Aminu ascribed the massive corruption and highhandedness displayed by governors and other executive office holders, to the immunity clause, which gingers political office holders, to promote a reign of impunity in the country, knowing that they are above the laws of the land.? “Bad governance will surely be our lot as long as we maintain immunity clause in our constitution,” Prof? Aminu added. “Leaders of advanced democracies like America, England and France do not enjoy such protection by the constitution, as a result of which, they have to work hard to justify the confidence of the people and they go to court whenever they are invited. But the obverse is what we have in Nigeria and as if to compound our problems, the judiciary is compromised to the extent that justice can be bought by those who looted our treasuries”, he said.

He also decried the activities of those calling for Sovereign National Conference, saying that the agitation is mainly a ploy by politicians to overheat the polity in order to satisfy their personal interest. “Such cries usually fizzle out whenever these politicians achieved their personal interests”, he noted.
