Don’t Mortgage Nigeria’s Sovereignty, SDMP Tells Jonathan

The National Secretary of the Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP), Dr Sadiq Umar Gombe has advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to mortgage the? sovereignty of the country? by soliciting the assistance of United States in tackling insecurity in the country.

Dr Sadiq was reacting to the president’s call to United States to support Nigeria’s efforts to finding lasting solutions to the problem of insecurity.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Kaduna in an exclusive interview, he said that if the president cannot handle the insecurity in the country, he should resign rather than mortgaging the nation’s security to any foreign nation, most especially a foreign nation which foresaw doom for Nigeria.

“If Jonathan can not handle the security situation of Nigeria he should resign rather than mortgaging our security to any foreign nation?”

The National Secretary described the request for US assistance in the security of Nigeria as a grand design to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty.

He expressed fears that United States would turn the country to another Iraq or Afghanistan, so that they would have access to Nigeria’s wealth.
