NFF Board Member Wants Draw Bonus Cancelled

Members of the Super Eagles will cease to enjoy free bonuses after failing to win a match if the advise of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee member, Ahmad Muazu Kawu is anything to go by. Kawu yesterday called for the cancellation of match bonuses for draw as currently being implemented by the federation.

Kawu told LEADERSHIP SPORTS at the officials Stayeasy Hotel in Nelspruit that the practice amounts to a waste of resources. He said if left to continue it is tantamount to encouraging poor performance. He complained that it is a waste of resources to pay the players when for not wining matches.

Kawu, who doubles as the chairman of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) promised to spearhead the campaign against the policy in order to make the players sit up henceforth and receive only wining bonuses. “I don’t buy the idea of paying players match bonuses for a draw game, bonuses should only be paid for wins”, Kawu said.

Speaking on the 1-1 against Burkina Faso last Monday, Kawu said he was worried that the Super Eagles team to the ongoing 2013 Africa Cup of Nations could not play the kind of football that the country is noted for.

He said the players should reciprocate the NFF’s gesture of being adequately motivated by doing well in the tournament.

“We (NFF) are not happy with the draw against Burkina Faso. We are also worried, and our worry is not because of the draw but because of the way our boys played.
