NDLEA Arrests Mother, Daughter Over Cannabis

The Kogi State command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 65-year-old woman and her daughter with 43.2kg of sativa cannabis.

The commander, Mr Idris Bello, disclosed this to journalists yesterday in Lokoja.? He said the woman, Regina Esume and her daughter from Delta State were arrested at 1 pm on Thursday during a stop-and-search operation on an Abuja-bound commercial bus.

Bello added that the woman was with her six-year-old grandson, Uche Animan at the time of their arrest.

He said the suspects concealed the substance in 31 parcels neatly packaged in travelling boxes which the suspects claimed they were taking to Kaduna for delivery to one Mallam Adamu.

He said the suspects would be taken to court on completion of investigations, adding that they would be asked to send for their relatives to come and take the child, stressing that the minor was not under arrest.

The suspect, Madam Regina, who hails from Isoko in Delta State, told journalists that she did not know that she was in an illegal business. Her daughter, Edith, however, said the parcels were given to them by a man from Owo, Ondo State for onward delivery to the man in Kaduna. She blamed their action on hard times.
