The Zaria International Polo Tournament gallops today at the Zaria Polo Polo Ground, Muhammadu Aminu Square Zaria, Kaduna State.
Captain of Kaduna Polo Club, Ali Hassan Hadejia said his club; Kaduna Polo club is ready and well prepared for the Zaria Polo Tournament which gallops off at the ancient city of Zaria. He said the target of his team is to win four trophies.
This year’s edition of the prestigious Zaria Polo tournament will run from today till next weekend April 13.
Trophies to be competed for at the national polo fiesta are the Royal Signal Cup, Emir of Zazzau Cup, Governor’s Cup and University Cup.
Others include Vice President Namadi Sambo Cup, Sarkin Zazzau Mallam Jafaru Memorial Cup, General Hassan Usman Katsina Cup, Commandant Cup, Beginners Cup and Veterans Cup.
Kaduna Polo club, the premier polo club in the country is entering the tournament with nine teams according to Ali Hassan Hadejia.
The teams include; Kaduna Keffi? Pony, Yola farms, Deebe Farms, Kaduna Mablo, Kaduna Profile, Kaduna Kawo, Kaduna Malali and Kaduna NuruSuraj.
Speaking exclusively with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND SPORTS, he stated that, “we are ready for the Zaria tournament and we are going to win all the four trophies we are participating in.
We did fairly well in the last polo tournament in Portharcourt, won two out of four cups and the reason was because most of our top players were playing in an international polo tournament in Dubai so we couldn’t field a full strength team, but all our players are around and we are winning all the cups this time in Zaria”.
He also revealed that; “we are going to Zaria with a junior team -Kaduna future leaders and they are going to be playing in the Beginner’s Cup and we hope they will triumph too.
The Zaria tournament is going to be tough no doubt since all the polo clubs in the country will be competing, but we are well prepared and equal to the task.”
