When Nollywood
actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was spotted on the red carpet, at the
53rd Grammy Awards, it was hailed as a good development. Coming a few
weeks after fellow actor Genevieve was featured on CNN’s Connector of
Day and Dbanj’s collaboration with American hip hop star Snoop Dogg,
the actress became a trending topic on social networking sites.
Although she came
under attack for the unfitting outfit she wore, the actress seems
undisturbed by the comments it elicited; instead, she chooses to
discuss the details of her trip to the US and her new management deal
Music matters Speaking through her publicist, Big Sam Media, the
actress said she recently signed a management deal with Bishop
Entertainment Consult (BEC) in America and the partnership has opened
up new frontiers for her. The actress cum singer who gained critical
acclaim in her 1995 break out role in ‘Mortal Inheritance’ said the
trip was an eye opener for her.
“I visited the 2Pac
Foundation where I shared my vision to have my NGO, Omotola Youth
Empowerment Programme (OYEP), collaborate with the 2Pac Center for Arts
and Learning in helping to get kids off the street and making their
life count back home in Nigeria,” she said.
She also added that
she met with the director of the 2Pac Community Outreach, Dr. Carlos
Coleman and added that talk is currently going on about how to conclude
this collaboration. Omotola also revealed that this year, she hopes to
take her music career to the next level. As a step in the right
direction, she revealed that “on June 16, 2011, I will headline the
2pac @40 Birthday Concert holding in Atlanta”. Other stars expected at
the event are Afeni Shakur (2Pac’s mum), Snoop Dogg, Outlawz, Dr. Dre
and Dog Pound family among many others.
A record for
African Next in line of her many visits, was her meeting with the
Atlanta Chapter of the Grammy Office. She was received by the chapter’s
president Ms. Michele Capline. Discussions bordered on how African
artists can benefit from programmes the recording Academy (Grammy) has
in place.
Before returning to
Nigeria the mother of four also appeared on the CBS owned V103FM’s
Frank and Wanda Morning show in Atlanta Georgia. According to Jalade,
“I became the first entertainment brand from Nigeria and Africa as a
whole to appear on the radio station that many describe as number one
radio show in Georgia,” she quipped.
