The President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria(SCIAN) and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III, has said that traditional rulers are major stakeholders in tackling security problems in Nigeria.
He added that security was the responsibility of everyone.
The Sultan stated this yesterday when he received a delegation of the Committee on Security Matters in the North East zone that paid him a courtesy call at his palace in Sokoto.
The Royal father also pledged to support and partner with all relevant bodies toward finding solutions to the security challenges in the country.
He commended the committee for embarking on a tour of the country and having interactive sessions with relevant bodies towards finding a lasting solution to the problem.
The monarch stressed that no development could be achieved without peace.
He said, “We want to assure the panel that we are totally committed to finding lasting solutions to all Nigeria problems be they security, economic as well political.”
Responding, the Chairman of the Security Committee, Ambassador Usman Gargi told the sultan that the committee was saddled with the responsibility of studying the causes of the security challenges in the northeast, looking into issues and finding lasting solutions to them.
The ambassador also said that they were at the Sultan’s palace to seek his fatherly advice.
