College Student Murdered Over N800

A 200-level student of Niger State College of Education Minna,? Malam Shuaibu Bala, was murdered Monday in Maitumbi,? a suburb of Minna, during a disagreement with his neighbour, Yahaya Ali, over a? balance N800 from the sale of a phone set.

An eye witness told LEADERSHIP that Ali, a son of a police inspector in the town, had approached the deceased in their family compound at about 9pm on the fateful day and demanded the balance of N800 from the transaction of a handset he had earlier sold to Abubakar Yunusa, the elder brother of the deceased.

LEADERSHIP learnt that the deceased had informed Ali and his friend, one Abdul Morocco, that his brother was not? in and asked them to come back later, but they had insisted that they wanted their money immediately.

Soon an argument ensued and subsequently a fight. Ali was said to have seized a pressing iron and hit the deceased in the neck, leading to his instant death.

Yahaya and Morocco were said to have carried the deceased’s body to the Minna-Kuta dual carriage road close to the scene of the incident and fled when they discovered that he had died, but they were tracked down by irate youths who handed them over to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Richard Oguche confirmed the arrest of Ali, whose father is a serving Inspector Police in the town, and said that the matter had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) unit for investigation.
