‘Senate Received 106 Bills In 6 Months’

The Senate yesterday said that it, among other legislative functions, introduced a total of 106 bills and passed one since the inception of the seventh session on June 6, 2011. The passed bill was the controversial same sex marriage prohibition bill.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, who disclosed this in a media chat in Abuja, yesterday, said that out of the 106 bills, 61 have scaled first reading while 16 have been read a second time and referred to the relevant committees for further legislative work.

Senator Enang also pointed out that 26 bills were waiting for publication while six have been withdrawn for reconsideration while only the bill banning same sex marriage has been passed.

He also noted that the seventh senate had approved the nomination of 42 ministers, confirmed Honorable Justice Dahiru Musdapher as Chief Justice of the federation, confirmed? Honorable Justice Olukayode Aiwoola as justice of the Supreme Court among others.
