Yobe Spends N1.5b On Security In 12 Months – Deputy Gov.

The Yobe Government said on Wednesday it had expended more than N1.5 billion on providing logistics to security operatives in the state in the past one year.

Yobe is the hot-bed of the Islamic Boko Haram insurgency.

The state's Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, made the announcement in Damaturu while receiving the Northern States Committee on Reconciliation, Healing and Security, led by Sheikh Ahmed Lemu during a courtesy visit.

Aliyu said government had provided 150 operational vehicles to the security forces.

?”We appreciate the reinforcement of military, police and other security operatives in the state by the Federal Government.

“We, however, wish to appeal to the Federal Government to assist the state with financial support to facilitate the logistics needs of security operatives, ” he said.

The deputy governor observed that the protracted security challenge had crippled economic fortunes of the state.

“There are no internally generated revenue because people fled the state capital at the peak of the crisis,” he said.

Aliyu noted that other aspects of development had suffered set backs because of the huge resources channelled into providing security.

Lemu, Chairman of the Committee, said the team was in Yobe on a fact-finding mission to pave the way for discussion, dialogue and reconciliation.

He? expressed concern over the security challenge and its consequences on socio-economic development of people in the state and the country in general.
