Question: Do you think the inclusion of Shola Ameobi in Super Eagles squad at his age can bring the positive changes needed when there are many talented young strikers?

Answer:

Ameobi will certainly bring something different to the Super Eagles set-up. He has vast English Premiership experience, of course, and a decent enough scoring record, if not spectacular.

But at 6ft, 2in he also bring great height, and no small amount of power. At 29 he probably does not have a long international career ahead of him, but Nigeria’s needs are immediate and if he can do a job up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, then why not give him a try?

What he has over young, up-and-coming strikers is the track record of having played in one of the toughest leagues in the world.

It is also fair to say that we should trust the judgment of coach Samson Siasia, if he feels Ameobi is better than other options, then he should get the backing of Nigerian fans, who can judge the success or failure of the pick further down the line.
