From a queen to a baby mama

Stella Abulu, 2008
Face of Edo beauty pageant winner, speaks about her project and being
the baby mama to popular comedian, I Go Dye’s .

How does it feel being a beauty queen?

There is no special
feeling to being a queen because everybody is born beautiful. It
depends on how you portray your beauty from the inside and outside.
Some peoples’ beauty is on their faces while others are inside. It is
when you come closer to a woman that the true attribute of beauty
reflects on her personality. I was surprised [when I won] because there
were so many beautiful contestants who were potential winners. My
biggest joy was the courage I had that made my agent register me.

Is it true you have a baby by the popular comedian, I GO Dye?

Yes. His name is Roy and he’s seven months old.

What is your relationship with I go Dye?

To me, he is not the I Go Dye you know on stage. He is Francis, a father, a friend, a brother and a caring darling.

How did you meet?

We met the normal
way a man meets a woman. He came as a guest to one of my charity
events, ‘Care foundations’. From there we became friends and the rest
is history.

He seems to be very busy, how do you cope with his tight schedule?

Even in his tight and abnormal schedules, travels and events, he still finds time to spend with his family.

What plans do you have for your pet project this year?

We are already
putting finishing touches to our plans to have a charity event to raise
money for the less privileged in the society, since they can’t fully
help themselves as it were.

What is your assessment of the Nigerian entertainment industry?

I think the
industry is improving tremendously, and with time, it will definitely
get better. What these young boys are doing is really impressive
because when you listen to their music, you hardly believe it is
produced in Nigeria. Nollywood is also raising the bar. They are now
producing world class movies, “Ije,” for instance, is very encouraging.
Government needs to be involved in the industry, especially by investing
in the industry and help in fighting piracy.
