YOUNG BOSS: Excess weight trimmer

Oluseyi Omisore is
the chief executive officer of Shedams Fitness Clinic (SFC) a Lagos
based fitness and aerobics club. The Computer Engineering graduate
began his fitness clinic which is targeted at young people in 2007, he
speaks on the journey thus far.

What do you do at Shedams Fitness Clinic (SFC)?

At Shedams Fitness
Clinic (SFC), we help in maintaining a high level of physical body
fitness through exercises and diet. The program is targeted at helping
young individuals reduce or shed excess weight through series of body
exercises within a speculated period. The fitness and aerobics club
also provides consultancy services on diet and nutrition. At Shedams
Fitness Clinic (SFC), we operate on biblical principle and our slogan
is ‘It is possible…..YES!’

What motivated you to go into business for self?

Introduction of SFC
into the society is as a result of young individuals who realise they
are obese and overweight either as a result of unbalanced diet or
careless intake of foods referred to as junks. These individuals seek
alternative measures apart from regular jogging routines and exercises,
which is not helpful in getting desired results. The clinic is quick to
realise the need for a total man with good body stature and fitness
that is readily alert and fit for various activities the society
demands.

Did you face much opposition before starting the business?

Yes, I faced quite
a number of challenges. It was more of not being sure if people would
really like the idea of having a trainer that will help them get a
desired body fitness level.

Did you have a regular 9-5 before starting this business?

As a matter of fact
I have a regular job I still keep. I work with eTranzact International
Plc but I have been able to manage it very well with my schedule. I
also employ trainers and instructors who work with me.

What are the advantages of running the business?

The business is
lucrative and apart from the income flow, you meet a lot of individuals
who are ready to do anything to keep fit. These individuals relate
their experiences and how they have been able to overcome their weight
and diet problems to others. With the spread of this rehabilitated
lifestyle, we are building a set of individuals that is able to meet
with the demands of the society.

What challenges have you faced over time?

Generally,
individuals who are obese do not like to be reminded that they are
obese; it really takes a whole lot to approach them and eventually
convince and take them through a process of reorientation on weight
loss possibility.

Ever thought of packing up in frustration?

I have never had such thought cross my mind since inception in 2007. This is what I love and enjoy doing.

What have you learnt that they don’t teach in books?

Persistence and
that every business takes a while before it becomes stable. People
become frustrated when their business does not show the growth as
expected within a short period of time.

What projections do you have for the future?

Within the next
five years, SFC will be a household name on every lip as far as
wellness and fitness is concerned. We will be offering 24hours fitness,
wellness, and diet/nutrition consultancy services to individuals. Host
individuals whose lives have been touched in one way on TV shows. We
are also starting a reality TV show. Generally, the sky is the starting
point for SFC.

What advice would you give potential entrepreneurs?

My advice to
potential entrepreneurs is, it’s better to start anyhow than not start
at all, the idea you have now might be the same in ten other persons.
Do not let procrastination deprive you of what could have been your
greatest achievement in life.
