After 3 months of a rigorous judging process, The Future Awards (TFA) released its final list last Monday short listing both popular and unfamiliar Nigerian under 31s in twenty different categories.

The finalists drawn from different works of life are boxed into categories including; Creative Professional of the Year, Actor of the Year, Best Use of Science, Best Use of Creativity, Young Person of the Year, Designer of the Year, Corporate Professional of the Year, Journalist of the Year, among others.

The list contained names of 71 achieving youths and three teams. Some of the popular nominees are Banky W, Tosyn Bucknor, Kemi Adetiba, Ini Edo, Genevieve Nnaji, Don Jazzy and P-Square.

Commenting on the final list, organisers, REDSTrat, say “the judging process has gone through a Board of Judges, public voting, an Independent Audit Committee, and back to the Board of Judges”.

The campaign for TFA 2011 was flagged off with an official launch of its sixth season in October and has held Town Hall Meetings across the nation and in South Africa and the United Kingdom. It continues today with a Pre-Award conference titled, ‘Do Something’ holding at the main Auditorium of the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba by 11am.

Kenneth Okolie, Awards’ spokesperson says, “With this conference, we are leading young people to stop complaining, stop waiting, stop wanting and start acting – to go out and improve their work or businesses, or to make change happen in Nigeria.”. The conference is a rare opportunity for young Nigerians to meet with high-achieving role models who they would otherwise not have the opportunity to meet. Some of them are Tunde Bakare, Pat Utomi, Betty Irabor, John Momoh and Iretiola Doyle.

Guest speaker at tomorrow’s event is Minister for Finance, Olusegun Aganga. Winners will be unveiled at the strictly by invitation 1000 guest event holding at the Landmark Village, Victoria Island.
