President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday pledged that a federal university will be established in Yobe State next year.

Mr. Jonathan made the pledge while
addressing PDP supporters at a campaign rally in Damaturu, Yobe State.
He said the establishment of the university was in line with the
federal government’s policy on education, which stipulated that each
state of the federation must have a federal university.

“It is a policy of the federal
government that every state must have a degree awarding institution.
So, we started with some and we assure you that by 2012, Yobe State
will have its own federal university,” he added.

He promised that all ongoing federal roads projects in the state would soon be completed, to boost socio-economic activities.

Mr. Jonathan added that
PDP-administration would embark on wealth creating ventures through the
provision of stable electricity supply to all communities across the
country.

He stated that government had taken
adequate measures to address the problem of scarcity of kerosene in the
country, promising that Nigerians would no longer suffer from acute
shortage of petroleum products.

Highlights of the occasion included the formal defection of former deputy governor of the state, Sale Bagare, from ANPP to PDP.
