The Cross River
State governor, Liyel Imoke has declared that some members of the state
House of Assembly lost their re-election bid because of a careful
assessment by the people of their constituencies. The governor spoke in
Yala Local Government Area at a campaign rally of his party.

“Those who were
unable to offer effective representation and influence development
projects to their constituencies failed to pick the PDP ticket for
second term in office,” he added.

He denied his government’s involvement in the failure or success of the legislators in the primaries.

In the northern
senatorial district where he flagged off his re-election bid, he made
it clear that all land-locked rural communities in the state will be
provided with access roads to facilitate movement of people and
conveyance of their agricultural produce.

While declaring
open the 26 kilometres Ippolo-Ogba-Ijibollo-Apiapum road and the Abbey
River bridge road which before now had a hanging bridge, Mr Imoke said
the road project was designed to have make impact on the lives of the
people as it has opened access between Yala and Obubra Local Government
Areas.

He acknowledged
the economic importance of the communities in terms of agricultural
produce and directed the contractor to extend the road to Ogurude,
another land-locked community in Obubra, noting that a new road has
been opened between the two councils thereby minimising the cost and,
shortening the distance between the areas.

Construction of roads

Eko Atu, the
director general, Rural Development Agency (RUDA) said the construction
of the road project commenced in 2008. The Mfuma Ntrigon community in
its welcome address commended Mr Imoke and called on him to ensure that
the border crisis between them and the Izzis in Ebonyi State is solved
permanently he assured Mr Imoke of support in his re-election quest.

The governor also commissioned the Mbora/Wandudu electrification
project as well as inspected ongoing renovation work on Secondary
Commercial School Okpoma and Government Secondary School Okpoma. At the
two schools, the governor urged the students to study very hard as any
one of them could be the future President of the country. Mr Imoke
assured the students that his government will provide the proper
learning environment to guarantee their success.
