University acquires farmland to boost food production

The Vice Chancellor
of the University of Agriculture Abeokuta (UNNAB), Olufemi Balogun,
yesterday disclosed that the school has acquired four farm settlements
in Ogun State to boost food production and solve most of the challenges
associated with farming.

Mr Balogun made the
revelation at a press conference held at the Senate Chambers of the
University at Alabata, Abeokuta in preparation for the 18th and 19th
Convocation Ceremony of the university. “One of the prime mandate of
this university is extension services. In the bid to promote farming,
and assist our farmers solve most of the challenges associated with
their activities, we have recently created the community based farming
scheme,” Mr Balogun said.

The four farm settlements are: Odogbolu (Ijebu Zone), Ode-Lemo (Remo Zone), Ishaga-Orile (Egba Zone) and Imeko (Yewa Zone).

Mr Balogun informed
that the institution is turning out a total of 1,395 graduands in the
eight colleges for the 2008/2009 academic session, and 1,572 graduands
for the 2009/2010 academic session. “Also, we will be conferring 29
Postgraduate Diplomas, 107 Masters and 20 MBA (Agribussiness),

16 Masters in ICT, and 47 Doctorate Degrees on 219 graduands,” Mr Balogun stated.
