eLDee presents ‘Top Talent’

Trybes Records boss
and performing artist, eLDee, presents young music hopefuls with an
opportunity to get sponsorship with the new Trybes Records initiative,
‘Top Talent’.

“It is a platform
for unsigned Nigerian artists of all genres that allows for them to
showcase their talent and possibly get a record deal. The contest
requires unsigned talent to enter an mp3 song for free by sending an
email with their song attached. eLDee and his team of ARs will
then listen to all entries and select the top 10,” a release from
eLDee’s Trybe Records reads.

According to the
singer, the final winner will be selected via a web poll after the
upload and the winner will feature on the singer cum producer’s
upcoming album, ‘Is It Your Money Vol.2’ and possibly get a record deal
with Trybes Records.

Banky W dines with fan

Multiple
award-winning music sensation, Banky W wined and dined with a fan last
week courtesy 360nobs’ ‘360 Date’. The dinner which was held at the
Orchid Bistro restaurant in Ikeja between the singer and an apparently
devout fan identified simply as Chidinma, was made possible after the
singer chose Chidinma from the about 80 applicants on the celebrity
website, 360nobs.com.

Every month a
particular celebrity is put up for a free date on the website and
interested applicants are required to send in comments on why they
should be chosen. The celebrity is then allowed the luxury of making
the choice from the comments. Banky W is the inaugural celeb on the
‘360 Date’ platform.

A portion of
Chidinma’s winning comment reads “I know how cliché it is, to write all
of these here, but I need you to understand that even if I don’t get to
be your chosen date, I’d still buy your CDs off notjustok.com (I
stopped buying them off the streets, after I realised its implication
on your finances), tweet at you even though you pay me no heed, bump to
your tracks and keep you in my prayers.”

Critics chime in on Lady Gaga’s latest single

Lady Gaga has done
it again. The singer, whose lyrics like to toe the controversy line,
released “Judas,” the latest track off of her new album Born This Way
on Friday – a few days earlier than its originally scheduled April 19
drop date. And critics are already weighing in.

“The Red
One-produced ‘Judas’ carries echoes of her biggest hits, ‘Bad Romance’
and ‘Poker Face,’ and finds Gaga pushing religious boundaries over a
pummelling breakdown,” said Billboard.

Rolling Stone also
brought up the similarities in the song to Gaga’s previous work.
“Though ‘Judas’ certainly has its own charms and at least three
insanely catchy hooks, it leans hard on Gaga’s signature moves and
basically sounds like a cross between ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Poker Face.’”

“After the second
verse and chorus, the song breaks down into a churning house song as
Gaga chants in much the same way she does in the middle of ‘Born This
Way.’ ‘I wanna love you/ But something’s pulling me away from you/
Jesus is my virtue, Judas is the demon I cling to, I cling to,’” added
MTV.

For her part, Gaga
revealed in her latest YouTube video, titled ‘Gagavision no. 42’, that
she continues to be hands-on with her material. “I graphic-designed the
‘Judas’ single cover myself,” she said. “I photographed the image with
my cell phone for texture.”

Actor Nicolas Cage arrested in New Orleans

Oscar-winning actor
Nicolas Cage has been arrested in New Orleans after a drunken argument
with his wife outside a residence in the French Quarter, police said on
Saturday.

The 47-year-old
film star, was taken into custody at about 11:30p.m. on Friday and
booked on suspicion of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and
public drunkenness, New Orleans police spokesperson, Garry Flot said in
a written statement.

Cage was ordered to appear in court on May 31.

According to the statement, Cage was observed arguing with his wife on a street in the city’s French Quarter.

“(Cage) and his
wife were standing in front of a residence that he insisted was the
property the couple was renting,” Flot said in the statement. “She
disagreed and Cage grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her to what
he believed was the correct address.” The actor then began striking
cars and tried to get into a taxi cab, Flot said.

“At that point, an
officer who had been flagged down by on-lookers drove up on the couple,
immediately observed that Cage was heavily intoxicated, and ordered him
out of the cab, which prompted Cage to start yelling. The officers
subsequently took Cage to Central Lock-Up,” Flot said.

There were no visible injuries to Cage’s wife, he said.

Cage, the nephew of film director Francis Ford Coppola, is best
known for such films as “Raising Arizona,” “Gone in 60 Seconds” and
“National Treasure.” He has twice been nominated for an Academy Award,
winning the Oscar for his portrayal of a down-and-out alcoholic in the
1995 film “Leaving Las Vegas.”
