Following the
killing of two members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ekiti
State during the just concluded election, the state chairperson of the
party, Jide Awe, has appealed to members of the party to remain calm.

A member of the
party, identified as Ojo Selewa, was allegedly shot dead in Iludun
Ekiti in Ilejemeje local government area on the eve of the election by
persons suspected to be Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters.

A PDP leader who allegedly ordered the killing of Mr Selewa has reportedly been arrested along with four other suspects.

Another member of the party was shot dead on the day of the election in Osi-Ekiti in Ido-Osi local Government area of the state.

Mr Awe expressed
shock at the “senseless killings of members of our party,” blaming the
acts on “the intolerance of the PDP” in the state.

The ACN chairperson
urged the police to “carry out a thorough investigation of the cases,”
saying, “those behind the killings must be brought to justice.”

However, the
director of communication and strategy of the PDP in the state, Jackson
Adebayo, reacting to the allegations, denied that his party was
involved, claiming that the deceased were killed by thugs of the ACN.

Mr Adebayo said
that in Iludun thugs allegedly hired by the ACN invaded the residence
of the PDP leader who alleged to have ordered the shooting of Mr Selewa.

According to him, “the hoodlums broke down the gate to the house and
in an attempt to shoot the PDP leader, a bullet fired by the thugs hit
the deceased.”
