The Kaduna State
chapter of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has accused some
traditional rulers of partisanship during the general elections.

Addressing
journalists in Kaduna yesterday, the chairman of the party, Mohammed
Aliyu Lawal blamed traditional rulers for failing to discharge their
duties during the elections in the state.

“They have left
their basic responsibility of maintenance of peace and harmonious
co–existence between their people. In fact, some of them have taken
sides, so there is the need for the traditional rulers to have a
re-think, to have a review of their activities during the last election
otherwise nobody can say what would happen to the institution in future.

Changing trends

He said to see children of 18 years burning the houses of prominent personalities is a cause for concern.

“In the past that
is impossible. So we must find out why these things are happening and
it is left for the traditional rulers to make some form of soul
searching so that the society can be a better place to live.” He
explained that despite the money being spent to maintain the
institution, some traditional rulers are agents of destruction and
disharmony in their communities.

He noted that
politics should be about what one can offer to the people, credibility
and programmes of the candidate instead of using money to buy votes.
He, however, called on the government to live up to its
responsibilities by providing the people with the basic needs of life.

“The INEC is still
the INEC of Maurice Iwu, there is nothing that has changed in INEC. If
there is any it is in the pages of newspapers,” said the chairman.

He commended the security agents in the state for maintaining law and order during the election.
